What does it mean to be deliberate in our faith?
In the case of being thankful it means being aware of what is happening around us and seeing God’s invisible hand in those events. The simplest things, even daily events that happen at the right moment should not be taken for granted. We ask God to orchestrate our steps and when it happens we miss that prepared moment. The good news is that we may pick up on it later and recognize that what happened was no random happenstance and be more prepared next time.
We are instructed to be thankful in all things (I Thess. 5:17-19 ). Paul and Silas singing hymns of praise from prison at midnight (Acts 16-25). On the surface this may seem odd. They were thankful that they were counted worthy to share in the sufferings of Jesus in sharing the Good News! Rather than seeing their freedom removed, they had a captive audience for one thing!
In simpler things see God’s hand moving. Be aware, in the sea of events, of what may appear in an ordinary day. Do not allow things not of real importance to distract you. We have the greatest gift to share through our words and actions being open to God’s leading.
“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father”(Col. 3:17).
